About SBS

SBS' Mission
The Society for Biomolecular Sciences' mission is to advance the science of drug discovery and related disciplines by providing a forum for education and information exchange among professionals around the world.
The Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS), the only international non-profit scientific society dedicated to drug discovery and its related disciplines, was founded in 1994 to provide a forum for global education and information exchange among professionals in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, and agrochemical industries.

Goal
SBS' goal is to advance the science of drug discovery and related disciplines by interdisciplinary education and communication among organic chemists and biochemists, molecular and cellular biologists, microbiologists, pharmacologists, genomics and proteomics specialists, nano- and robotics technicians, toxicologists, and information and data management specialists. SBS is also committed to fostering collaborations between industry and academia, and to promoting the highest quality and standards in all areas of drug discovery.

Membership
As the field of drug discovery has grown dramatically, SBS membership has kept pace, maintaining a robust growth rate. International in scope, the society's membership includes leading innovators, inventors, scientists, researchers, and drug developers from more than 30 countries, 400 companies, and 40 universities.

SBS members represent many of the largest and most influential research institutes, universities, and pharmaceutical companies in the world, including the National Cancer Institute, University of California, Berkeley, Harvard, government agencies and organizations, and most major companies involved in drug discovery.

Annual Conference & Exhibition
Every year for 14 years, SBS has presented the only non-profit scientific and industry conference on molecular screening, bringing together leading scientists and academics, presenting new research and information on the latest breakthroughs in drug discovery, research, trends, technologies and equipment. SBS conferences are renowned for the quality, credibility, and expertise of their presenters.

More than 2000 eminent scientists, innovators, and researchers -- as well as industry analysts representing a broad range of disciplines and companies from around the world -- regularly attend the SBS annual conference and exhibition to learn about the latest trends and basic and applied research that are dramatically transforming the way new pharmaceuticals are developed.

Education
SBS continues to expand its mission, providing symposia and online virtual courses to advance interdisciplinary collaboration. The society also hosts seven technical committees, five special interest groups, and a wide-ranging awards program.

Publications
The society publishes a peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Biomolecular Screening, which is indexed in Index Medicus. Journal articles emphasize scientific and technical applications and advances in the field of high-throughput screening and other drug-discovery technologies. Key topics include assay development and technologies, target identification/validation product applications, lead generation/optimization, virtual screening/chemoinformatics, high-content screening, and sample management.

In addition, the society publishes SBS News, a membership newspaper that offers feature articles, industry updates, and highlights of the membership's professional achievements.
